The Move...

Last weekend (on Jeff's Birthday) we spent our entire Saturday packing and moving. We got the keys to our new place on Friday the 24th and have to officially be out of our current place by the fifth of November.

Naturally we wanted to get most of the moving done in one day so we rented a Uhaul and recruited some friends -(thanks Troy and Andrew). We started the big move at nine in the morning and did not stop until 95% of our apartment had been moved. By 4 o'clock we were ready to return the Uhaul and call it a day.

We dropped off the truck and headed to our old place for a couple of last minute items. We needed to pick up some soap, toiletries, etc. We grabbed the last little things we needed and drove to our new place. Excited at the thought of showering and sitting down to relax for the remainder of Jeff's birthday night. We would order dinner and watch a movie, simply enjoy what was left of his day.

Once we got home we started to unload the remaining few pieces from our car and headed inside. On our final trip inside from unloading the car I noticed that Jeff had stopped dead in his tracks before entering the house. I could not figure out what he was doing. Then suddenly he looked over glaring at me with a worried look on his face.

"Please tell me you have a set of house keys on you" he asked.

"Uh Oh" I replied, "Did I lock us out?"

At this point I have never seen Jeff so angry! The blood was pumping to his face and he looked over at me furious, "Well, now what do we do?"

Our keys, phones, and everything else we owned were now locked inside our new place with absolutely no way to get inside. The only thing that I had on me was a single car key. We walked around the house searching for a point on entry. There was absolutely we were going to be able to break in. (Now, I am actually grateful for this fact) . We walked to our neighbors house to see if we could use her phone- no answer.

Finally we came up with a plan. We would drive to Safeway, get a phone book and call a locksmith to let us in. Once we got to the store we felt like homeless people walking in asking to use their phone. We were covered from head to toe in dirt and sweat from moving all day. We called a locksmith to meet us at our house (for only $60). As we sat on our front porch waiting to be let into our new home I couldn't resist looking over at Jeff and saying:

"Well, Happy Birthday"
