17 Weeks on 10/31/09

Wow, time is flying by. It seems like just yesterday our little peanut was actually the size of a peanut! Now the baby is already getting so big. I only have one pair of pants that fit (button) all the rest are too uncomfortable to wear. I had my 16 week doctor's appointment last Monday and everything seems to be going along perfectly. They said our first trimester screening results came back and everything looks normal. Phew.

Kelly was in town for Jeff's 30th Birthday, so she was able to come to my appointment with me. Because I had a rescheduled appointment my Dr. was off and I had to see a nurse practitioner . She kept looking at Kelly and asking her questions, like we were a couple. Finally when she asked if I was carrying my own ovum or a donor's I had to clear the air, that we were not a same sex-couple. Jeff was at work and Kelly was visiting from out of town, LOL. (I told Kelly it was her cowboy boots that threw the nurse off).

Anyways - We were able to hear the heartbeat loud and clear. It was registering between 150-160 bpm. We could also hear the little guy kicking around... every couple of seconds you would hear a swoosh, swish. It was amazing to be able to experience something so incredible. My next appointment is on 11/17 with my Dr. and then we have our 20 week ultrasound on 11/20... when we get to find out what we are having. (Only 18 more days!!!)

Here is the update on the development of our little one:

Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.
