5:00am: Dressed and ready to go to the hospital, Jeff goes to pick up coffee
5:40am: We leave the house and are off to the hospital
6:00am: Arrive at UC Davis Medical Center
6:10am: Check in and wait to be escorted with all of our stuff to the room. It looks like we are moving in!
6:30am: Get settled into the room, unpack and familiarize ourselves with where everything is
7:15am: Nurse goes over all paperwork, sign, sign and more signing of paperwork
7:30am: Nurse puts in IV of fluids, tries once and then twice - No luck. She calls in another nurse - tries once and gets it in the second time. Only 4 tries for an IV.
7:45am: Dr comes in to see where we are starting from 3-4 cm dilated and 90% effaced
8:00am: The pitocin is administered to start the induction
8:00am - 10:00 am: Waiting, waiting, waiting - Not much is happening
10:20am: Small contractions are starting to come on but not in a constant pattern
11:00am: Dr comes in and checks me again - No change
12:00 pm: All grandparents have arrived and hanging out in the room
1:30pm: Nap time to prepare for the long journey ahead
2:30pm: Dr comes in and checks progress - very little change
2:30pm - 3:30pm: Start walking the halls to get labor to progress
3:30pm: Resident Dr. decides to try and break water (He is not sure if he was successful)
4:00pm: Resident Dr. returns and breaks water for a "second" time - now the water is flowing!
4:15pm: Whoa Mama... the contractions are really starting to get strong
4:20pm: Call for the anesthesiologist, time for that epidural
4:45pm: Anesthesiologist arrives and not soon enough - puts in the epidural after only 3 tries.
5:00pm: Nurse puts in catheter on second try
5:10pm: Nurse checks dilation - am now at a 6cm dilation
5:30pm: Contractions are REALLY strong, yell at Jeff to get the anesthesiologist, new one on duty, she notices the first one never hooked up the drugs. Ugh - that explains the pain
6:00pm: Dr Gillott stops by and says hello, decides to check again and I am 7 -8 cm dilated
7:00pm: All drugs have worn off - in a lot of pain, ask nurse for some more pain meds - they can't give anymore because I am too far along
7:30pm: 10 cm dilated and ready to push
7:30pm - 8:50pm: Pushing, pushing, pushing
8:50pm: Dr Gillott rushes in with a staff of at least 10 people (nurses and residents)
8:58pm: Reagan Grace Womack is born weighing 7lbs 11oz and measuring 19 inches
Tired Mama after 15 hours of labor!

Thanks for sharing your journey! How wonderful! Sounds like a lot of poking and prodding tho. Sounds like the hospital where Kim was born. They kept changing equipment on me because nothing was working right! I just didn't want anyone to touch me at that point. Anyway, Melissa. . . you did very, very well and look at Reagan. . . she's absolutely perfect! Congrats to you and Jeff! All of a sudden, it's a completely new life for you.
Love,
Barb
